Sustainability Policy
At Mateys Tours, we believe travel should be more than just moving from one destination to another – it should create lasting memories while leaving a positive footprint on the people, wildlife, and landscapes that make Tanzania, Kenya, Uganda and Rwanda truly remarkable. Sustainability is not a box we tick; it is at the very heart of how we operate and the guiding principle behind the experiences we create for our guests.
Protecting Nature.
The natural beauty of Tanzania is one of its greatest treasures, and we are committed to ensuring it remains unspoiled for future generations. Our team follows Leave No Trace principles on every safari and Kilimanjaro climb. From managing vehicles responsibly to reducing waste and promoting recycling, we carefully consider how each of our actions affects the environment. Beyond our daily practices, we actively support conservation efforts such as tree-planting initiatives in the Uluguru Mountains and Magilla Forest, where restoring green cover helps fight climate change, protects water sources, and safeguards biodiversity.
Caring for Wildlife.
Wildlife is the heartbeat of Tanzania, and protecting it is central to our mission. At Mateys Tours, we support the Serengeti De-snaring Project, an initiative that removes deadly snares and combats poaching to keep the great herds and predators safe. We also contribute to the care of a baby rhino at Mkomazi Sanctuary, helping one of Africa’s most endangered species thrive again. In addition, we back grassroots projects that restore fragile ecosystems and create safe spaces for animals to roam freely. When you travel with us, every game drive, every encounter, and every safari experience is designed to respect the animals and ensure their survival for years to come.
Supporting Communities.
We know that the strength of Tanzania lies not only in its wildlife and landscapes but also in its people. That’s why we work closely with local guides, porters, and suppliers – ensuring fair wages, safe working conditions, and opportunities for professional growth. Our community support goes beyond tourism: Mateys Tours proudly sponsors the education of nine children at Msamaria Kids Center in Moshi, giving them access to schooling and a brighter future. By empowering communities through education, employment, and support, we ensure that tourism benefits the people who make these experiences possible.
Respecting Cultures.
Tanzania is a mosaic of cultures, languages, and traditions, each contributing to the richness of the country’s identity. We respect and celebrate this diversity by encouraging travel that is sensitive and meaningful. Guests are invited to experience authentic cultural interactions, learn local traditions, and appreciate the heritage of Tanzania without exploitation or harm. Our role is to create opportunities where cultural respect and understanding bring communities and travelers closer together.
Transparency & Guest Awareness.
We believe sustainability is not something we achieve alone – it is a journey we take together with our guests. That’s why we are transparent about our practices and open to feedback from travelers, partners, and communities. Every guest is given the knowledge and tools to travel responsibly, from understanding wildlife etiquette to respecting cultural norms. By sharing insights and leading by example, we hope to inspire every traveler to become a steward of Tanzania’s future.
At Mateys Tours, sustainability isn’t just a statement on paper – it’s our promise in action. We are committed to creating life-changing experiences while protecting nature, conserving wildlife, and uplifting the communities we work with. Together, we can ensure that Tanzania’s beauty, culture, and spirit will continue to inspire generations to come.
