Itinerary

Day 1: Arrival at the airport.

Upon landing at Kilimanjaro International Airport (JRO) or Arusha Airport (ARK) for domestic flights, a warm welcome awaits you! A friendly Mateys Wild Tours representative will greet you and whisk you away to your accommodation in Arusha. Relax and unwind as you settle into your new surroundings, resting up for the thrilling safari adventure that lies ahead. Your unforgettable journey begins the moment you arrive!

Day 2: Arusha to Tarangire National Park

After an early breakfast, we set off for the iconic Tarangire National Park, a haven named after the Tarangire River, which winds through the landscape, providing the only reliable water source during the dry season. The park’s diverse vegetation, from towering acacia woodlands to lush riverbank forests, creates the perfect backdrop for spotting wildlife. Famous for its impressive herds of elephants, Tarangire offers unforgettable close-up encounters with these magnificent creatures, from playful calves to majestic bulls.

The Park also teems with giraffes, bushbucks, hartebeests, and a variety of predators such as lions and leopards, all vying for their place in this rich ecosystem. Bird enthusiasts will be in paradise, as Tarangire is home to more breeding species of birds than anywhere else on Earth.

After a delicious lunch and an exhilarating game drive, we’ll head to Mpingo Ridge Lodge, where you can relax and enjoy a well-deserved dinner before settling in for a restful night surrounded by the sounds of the African wilderness.

After an exciting game drive and a delicious lunch, relax at a luxurious tented lodge and enjoy dinner under the stars, spending two unforgettable nights immersed in the heart of this ancient, wild paradise.

Day 5: Serengeti National Park to Ngorongoro Crater

After an early breakfast, we set out for a final Serengeti game drive, marveling at its iconic wildlife and sweeping landscapes before heading to the Ngorongoro Crater. Surrounded by towering volcanic walls, this UNESCO World Heritage site is a pristine wilderness of golden savannahs, acacia woodlands, shimmering lakes, and lush swamps. Descending into the crater, you’ll encounter dense populations of wildebeest, zebras, gazelles, and over 500 bird species, with a chance to spot the rare black rhino. Following a picnic lunch and an unforgettable game drive, we continue to our luxury lodges in Karatu for dinner and an overnight stay.

Day 6: Lake Manyara National Park to Arusha

After an early breakfast, we’ll set off for Lake Manyara National Park, where your adventure begins with the sight of playful baboon troops. The Park takes its name from the “Emanyara” plant, a local Maasai name for Euphorbia tirucalli. As we explore, you’ll notice the vibrant patches of yellow fever trees scattered along the lake’s grassy shores, with the majestic Rift Valley escarpment always in view.

The park’s entrance is a stunning change of pace, with its lush groundwater forest—a refreshing contrast to the typical savannah landscapes. As you journey through, you’ll encounter the famous tree-climbing lions, the mesmerizing pink flocks of flamingos in the soda lake, and a variety of large water birds. The park’s beauty, mixed with the wildlife and the breathtaking escarpment, ensures an unforgettable experience.

We’ll enjoy a packed lunch at one of the park’s scenic picnic spots before making our way back to Arusha in the late afternoon, perfectly timed for your flight home or onward to the tropical paradise of Zanzibar.
